African Voices, an interview programme of Cable News Network (CNN), will this weekend beam its lights on ‘Music Makers’ on the continent.

Sponsors of the programme, Globacom, explained in a press statement that this weekend’s edition of African Voices will look at artistes and musicians who have consistently been seeking ways to serenade their audience with their creative works across the African continent.

Those to be featured include Ghana’s Frank Kissi who was described as “one drummer who has taken his love of drumming to greater heights by creating a unique beat that has caught the attention of an international audience;” Deltino Guerreiro of Mozambique, acknowledged as “a dreamer ready to do big things with his distinctive voice,” and Uganda’s Keko regarded as “a rising artiste whose path to success has come from finding her voice on controversial topics.”

According to the network, Keko’s story is particularly inspiring. She was born Jocelyne Tracey Keko and  her rise to stardom  began in 2010 with the release of ‘Fallen heroes’ in which she featured  other established Ugandan artistes. Her single ‘How we do it’ took the Ugandan charts and MTV Africa by storm, making her an instant household name in East Africa, while her success culminated in an  endorsement deal with Pepsi which saw her lead Mountain Dew’s advertising campaign in East Africa.

The programme had last week focused on  Africa’s “Strong Women” including  South Africa’s first African female pilot, Asnath Mahapa, Uganda’s media personality, Flavia Tumusiime, and Ghana’s social media curator, Nicole Amarteifio.

African Voices is broadcast on CNN International at 9.30 a.m. on Fridays, while  repeats are aired at 1.30 p.m. on Saturdays, 11.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. on Sundays, Mondays at 10:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays at 4.30 a.m.
