Police Rescues Kidnapped APC Chairmanship Candidate’s Wife

KidnapperThe Ogun State Police command on Wednesday rescued the Wife of a Chairmanship aspirant under All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ewekoro Local Council, Mrs. Kudirat Balogun and an hotelier, Otunba Gbenga Taiwo who were kidnapped during the week.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu who spoke to journalists at the Officer’s Mess, Abeokuta said that Mrs. Balogun was rescued at Mile 2 area of Abeokuta due to the pressure mounted on the kidnappers by the police.

Illiyasu, flanked by the two rescued kidnapped victims, disclosed that the Hotelier who was kidnapped at Isonyin in Ogun Waterside on Monday was rescued at Iperu-Remo area of the State.

According to the Commissioner, following Mrs. Balogun kidnapping, operative of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) Magbon was deployed to comb every nook and cranny of the state and rescue the victim unhurt.

Illiyasu said that the police deployed tactical and surgical operations in order not to incure any casualty in the rescue mission.

He assured that suspects for both kidnaps would be apprehended in due course, adding “We are still on the trail of the suspects and the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them”.

The police boss said no ransom was paid for both victims freedom.

Narrating her ordeal, Mrs. Balogun said “They (kidnappers) slapped me two times because they said I should eat and I didn’t. After the slap I ate. They blind folded me and I didn’t see anything. They gave me bread and rice to eat. I thank God for the police for their efforts to rescue me”.

One of the victims, Taiwo, who is a politician and hotelier told journalists that the kidnappers demanded N5million, saying he told them he would not pay any ransom.

“I told them I can’t pay the N5 million and If you kill me, they will catch you because I am an Ijebu man and when they saw that I didn’t eat they had discussion that it is better for them to return me”.

He commended the effort of the police for their prompt response in rescuing him.

Asked whether his kidnap was political, Taiwo simply said “It (abduct) is not politically motivated but they acted on some information which I will later tell the police”.
