Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his conduct during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos.

The lawmaker was spotted in a video circulating on social media kneeling before Gbajabiamila and pleading for forgiveness.

Elliot said: “I’m sorry, I have no excuse. I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry, and I am hoping to be cultured in the future.”

The apology came after his disagreement with the party leadership over the APC primary conducted in May to select its candidate for the Surulere Constituency I seat.

Elliot had accused the party of intimidation, alleging that his supporters were subjected to political pressure during the primary election. His allegations prompted him to withdraw from the exercise.

He later rejected the outcome of the election and vowed to challenge the process through the party’s appeal mechanism.

Elliot eventually lost the APC ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who was believed to have the backing of Gbajabiamila.

Odunuga-Bakare polled 11,385 votes to defeat Elliot, who secured 270 votes in the primary.
