When Abike Dabiri-Erewa resolved not to go back to the House of Representatives, there were mixed reactions from different quarters. In the heat of the seeming confusion, she came out and gave reason why she didn’t want to return to the House. Though she said she wanted to give another person from the constituency a chance in the House, some expressed doubts about her claim.

As a result, critics went to town with speculations. While some said she was muscled out of the game, some said she was only eying a more financially rewarding position. What is, however, confounding is that the Ikorodu, Lagos State-born ex-lawmaker has been unfazed; rather she has remained focused, while keeping her next moves close to her chest.

Dabiri-Erewa, who gained fame as a broadcaster with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), still remains one of the popular members of the opposition All Progressives Party (APC), as she has been at the forefront of its campaign across the federation.

We gathered that apart from this, the beautiful woman of substance has henceforth promised to re-dedicate her life to the service of humanity.

This, it will be recalled, started during her days at the NTA, where she impressively used the tube to impact positively on her society. In her heydays as a reporter/presenter on NTA, she displayed uncommon gallantry, zeal and great sense of social responsibility. She used the medium as an effective tool to draw the attention of the government to millions of suffering and struggling Nigerians, a situation that endeared her to the hearts of her compatriots.

As a member of the Lower Chamber, her constituency benefited from several projects, which include free eye test, cataract surgery, empowerment programmes, cash donations to widows, water schemes and scholarship scheme for indigent youths, among others.
