The board of directors of Diamond Bank had just approved another tenure of three years for Alex Otti to run the bank as MD/CEO thus would have made him the man in charge of the financial institution for cool six years.
Just a few months into his second tenure as MD of Diamond Bank, Gov. Theodore Orji of Abia, home state of the banker sold the idea of him going into politics and becoming his successor into his head.
Sources said against all wise counsel that he should not quit his plumb job, Alex Otti resigned from Diamond Bank and joined the PDP and his eyes opened to the bitter reality of Nigerian politics.
We were told that within a few months of his joining the PDP, Gov. Orji changed his mind on the choice of his successor and the ex-banker was left in the cold. We were told that the ex-banker was now between the devil and the deep blue sea. He could not go back to Diamond Bank as a new MD has been appointed in Uzoma Dozie. Frustrated Alex Otti now joined another party for the governorship race in Abia. Insiders said the ex-banker will definitely come out stone broke after the governorship elections as those collecting money from him will not vote for him. However, the question on the lips of many now is that why did Gov. Orji deceive Alex Otti to quit his job since he knew he was not ready to allow him to succeed him as governor of Abia State?
