Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson, the Iyalode of Egbaland and Yorubaland has come out openly to tackle her critics and those who have been saying that the Alaafin of Oyo erred by bestowing the prestigious title of the Iyalode of Yorubaland on her. Hear her: “If anybody feels that the Alaafin of Oyo has no right to do so, let them query him. He has said it over a thousand times that he has the power to install anybody with the titles in Yoruba land. He has done it for Afe Babalola. He did it for late Aare Arisekola. He has installed so many in Yorubaland. He has the power and authority. I am saying it categorically that HRM Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom has the right to install anybody. I got the Iyalode of Yorubaland on my own merit. I became Iyalode of Ake Christians in 1990, Iyalode of Egbaland in 1999”.
