In a recent meeting at the Kaduna APC Secretariat which saw the purported suspension of Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central from both his ward and state executives lifted over the protracted war of words with Gov. El-Rufai. In a brief chat with our Kaduna correspondent, Zainab Tanimu, hear what the senator has to say…

Distinguish senator Sir, now that it has been said that your purported suspension is null and void, how do you feel?

Well, it is an indication of what l have always stated that what was done was wrong. I mean wrongfully done. I believe that now that the national body has made a clear statement, so, l am cleared.

What is most important is the call by the national body for us to observe a cease fire. Well, we would observe a cease fire and we hope that there would be no violation of this cease fire because if it is violated, certainly the parties would go back to the same thing and we want the APC to be united in Kaduna State and work for the betterment of Kaduna State and we are hoping that all parties would listen to the party.

The supremacy of the party is something that we very much respect and we hope that it would take precedent over everything. The image that is being portrayed is that l and the governor are fighting. It is natural because even you and your brother or sister can have misunderstanding. The thing is that l am simply expressing my opinion on issues l feel strongly about. But since the national secretariat has said we should cease media war, okay, we are observing a cease fire for now from my own side and we are hoping the other side would observe the truce so that it would become a permanent feature in the political light.

Are you going to equally stop criticizing the governor on policies that are demanding which is against your principles?

Laughs… Well, we are going to work the details of that out. Whether it includes that or not but what you should know is that l have a fundamental right as guaranteed by Nigerian constitution to express my opinion on issues. I would enjoin the governor to criticize me for not delivering and would also want him to accept criticism. If we say people should criticize, then l think we are improving on their fundamental rights. What l think is important is that the criticism should not be destructive and l hope that would be adhered to.

There is this insinuation that the PDP tried to woo you to their side during the crisis. What is your reaction to this sir?

Well, maybe you are very close to the PDP but l assure you very well that nobody is ruling me. I have never been to the PDP. I don’t even know what it stands for. I have always been in opposition and l would continue to be in the APC.
