Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole of Edo State is now fighting the political battle of his life. Those on ground in Edo State politics revealed to us that the governor and APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun are now in a bitter battle over who should be the next governor of the state.

We were told that the APC National Chairman is not supporting the anointed candidate of the governor, Godwin Obaseki. Rather, the chairman is said to be rooting for another APC chieftain as the next governor of the state. The governor is said to be bitter and betrayed by Oyegun whom he practically supported to be APC’s chairman against Chief Tom Ikimi. This move has divided the APC in Edo State. We gathered that those supporting the governor are pushing for the removal of Chief John Oyegun as chairman of the party. Their argument is hinged on the fact that the chairman wants to create problems for the APC before the governorship election so that a divided APC will confront the PDP in the forthcoming governorship election which will spell disaster for the party.

Be that as it may, some APC chieftains in the state are said to be supporting the chairman as they see the Oshiomhole as an outgoing governor whose influence will soon wane in the state. Meanwhile, members of the PDP in the state are said to be celebrating the cold war between the governor and Chief Oyegun as they see it as a golden opportunity to defeat the APC in the forthcoming guber election.
