Why Funmi Tejuosho Lost Speakership Race

Funmi TejuoshoHonourable member representing Mushin Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Funmi Tejuosho, has remained one of the prominent members of the said house since she was elected as a member. Her prominence could not solely be attributed to her professional role in the assembly but her positioning, her influence, even beyond the house and her beauty as well as her carriage.

The former Deputy Speaker, who is married to Oke Onam Egba prince, Kunle, tried to leverage on her experience and influence to be the speaker of the house and her aspiration at a time gathered so much momentum that many would have easily conceded the position to her but unfortunately her influence and other jokers failed her as Honourable Mudashiru Obasa representing Agege Constituency 1 emerged as the speaker of the 8th Assembly. Meanwhile, those who should know have revealed to us that although Funmi has all it takes to be speaker, she lost out because of her past.

Unlike what is widely believed that Asiwaju Tinubu imposed the winner, it was revealed that the party gave power to choose the speaker to members of the assembly. However, two members; Bayo Osinowo a.k.a Pepper who is known as the king maker of the house and outgone member, Honourable Taiwo Kolawole, were to make final decision. Kolawole, who was supposed to be speaker if he had returned, was said to have been given the honour of making final choice and Obasa came up because of his good manners and loyalty to the party and Asiwaju.

Tejouosho, it was said, paid for her sins that allegedly include taking sides with Fashola in the heat of the battle between Fashola and Asiwaju under the influence of former commissioner, Muiz Banire, who she was so closed to. Also, the fact that she was impeached as the Deputy Speaker of the house on August 17, 2009 was said to have worked against her as well as what it is termed her bad manners and arrogance.
