Why Ex-Gov. Udenwa Was Arrested

Achike-UdenwaFormer governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa was arrested recently by the operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over monies he collected from the Dasukigate arms deal. Insiders at the EFCC disclosed to us that the politician got N350 million from Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, Director of Finance of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation during the 2015 presidential election and the money was from the imprest account of the Office of the National Security Adviser domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The former governor and ex-Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri, who was his deputy at the presidential campaign organisation were in charge of the money. Since the trouble started, Viola Onwuliri has left the country, leaving the ex-governor to carry the can.

Sources at EFCC squealed to us that… “Upon his arrest, Udenwa was immediately granted administrative bail by the commission with condition that he should be reporting to the commission at an appointed time. But while enjoying his administrative bail, Udenwa chose to deliberately skip reporting, thereby compelling the commission to revoke his administrative bail pending his arraignment soon.”

Those close to the ex-governor said he is not ready to refund any money to the EFCC because he has spent the N350 million on the assignment given to him during the last presidential election.
