Voters who turned out in their numbers at Ngwo Park, Uwani, Enugu to cast their ballots in the March 18th election received the shock of their lives when an armed man suddenly appeared and chased the people away.

Eye witness accounts have it that the day started quietly enough, with INEC officials arriving with necessary election materials before 8 am.

Things were going smoothly until around 1.30 pm when a car, a red Toyota Camry Spider pulled up by Ngwo Street.

An unidentified man, wearing what appeared to be the top of a police uniform, then jumped out of the sedan, grabbed a gun said to be a pump action shotgun, with which he started to threaten the people.

The man kicked down the tables and scattered the entire electoral materials while the voters ran for their dear lives.
The unknown gunman then got into his car and zoomed off.

This incident took place just before votes were counted, so there was no result from that polling unit.

Police officers who later showed up packed the scattered electoral materials, put them in their truck and drove off.

This is just one among many other reports of electoral violence and voter suppression recorded around Enugu State.
