Omordi George Ugbomah PhD, former Chairman of the Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, and a Political Science Lecturer at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, has commended the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for approving a new salary structure for academic staff of the State’s Four Universities.
Dr. Ugbomah described the approval as a significant demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to staff welfare, quality education and human capital development in Delta State.
According to him, improved remuneration for university workers is not simply a welfare measure but an important investment in the stability, productivity and overall quality of the State’s tertiary education system.
“As a former Chairman of the Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, and as a lecturer at Dennis Osadebay University, I understand the critical role that the welfare and motivation of academic and non-academic staff play in the effective functioning of our tertiary institutions.
“I therefore sincerely commend His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for this important intervention. It demonstrates a clear appreciation of the sacrifices and contributions of our University workers to the development of our State.”
Dr. Ugbomah noted that the decision comes at a time when Delta State’s universities are experiencing increased enrolment and expanding academic programmes, making investment in human resources particularly important.
He urged academic and non-academic staff to reciprocate the gesture through greater dedication, professionalism, discipline, research, teaching excellence and commitment to the development of their respective institutions.
He further commended the Governor for other interventions aimed at improving the tertiary education sector, stressing that infrastructure development and staff welfare must go hand in hand if Delta State is to build sustainable centres of academic excellence.
Dr. Ugbomah expressed confidence that the new salary structure would further strengthen industrial harmony within the State’s tertiary institutions and create a more conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
He therefore congratulated the academic community across the State and expressed his appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for what he described as a timely and commendable investment in the future of Delta State.
