The story of actor-turn-politician, Rotimi Makinde, is one that is inspiring. Osun State-born Rotimi, from a humble background, armed himself with determination to rise above the level he was back then, and this mindset of his made him become one who does not turn back or takes impossibility for an excuse when he sets out to achieve a particular goal. This spirit of not giving up has paid off for him very well.

Rising above every obstacle his humble background could have imposed on him, Rotimi was able to pick up a job at the nation’s oil establishment, NNPC, as an accountant and he rose through the ranks to attain enviable heights. At the same time, the man had his hands in auto dealing and he was doing very well. As at the time he would venture into the movie industry to exhibit his acting prowess, it did not take long before he became established because he was the toast of his colleagues since he was well to do. As a man who loves challenges and a pace setter, having succeeded in his endeavours, the hotelier delved into partisan politics but this time, he had tougher things to contend with to realize his dream. At his first attempt in seeking elective office, Rotimi was kidnapped among others, yet, he lost out. At the second time in which he sailed through, an attempt was made on his life but he was lucky to have escaped the attack. However, casualties were still recorded as he lost relations and followers.

Makinde in 2011 was elected to represent Ife Federal Constituency at the lower chambers of the National Assembly. His days at the House of Representatives may have come to an end as his re-election bid to retain his post in the recently held National Assembly election failed. That he lost out at the polls is not considered as anything serious but what has been of interest to those in the know is how the man has been left in isolation to lick his wounds even as his colleagues in the movie world are said to be happy he did not make it. His offence, we learnt, is that he made himself invisible to his people while in office and he treated them like lesser beings each time they ran into him.
