Orji Kalu’s N7.6 Billion Fraud Allegation Latest

Abia State former governor, Orji Uzor Kalu‘s N7.6 billion allegation case has taken a new dimension.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has struck out the bid by the Federal Government to commence fresh prosecution against him.

The appellate court threw away the government’s move in a judgement delivered in Abuja by Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024.

The judge held that the record of appeal brought by the Federal Government was incompetent and unreliable for any court to use to grant its request.

Among others, Justice Oyewole said that the record of appeal was not compiled, signed and certified by any person known to law.

Specifically, he said the name of the person who compiled, signed and certified the record were not reflected as required by law.

For those who don’t know, a Federal High Court had on December 5, 2019 jailed the former governor for stealing the huge sums from the Treasury of Abia State during his tenure as governor.
