The new episode of the soar-away TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, going on air at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday will seek to call attention to the different drugs and substances abused by Nigerian youths and their consequent negative effects on the individual and society at large.

Entitled High People, the new episode will be shown on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes.  According to programme sponsor, Globacom, the repeat broadcast will also run on the same stations at 8.30 p.m. on Friday. Being a didactic programme, this week’s edition will in its usual humourous manner dramatise the evil effects of hard drugs and how addiction to them ruins people’s lives.

Globacom said viewers of the sitcom would see how two Nollywood icons, Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK) and Patience Ozokwor (Mama G), collaborate to  campaign against the growing trend of abusing hard drugs and other dangerous substances by youths in the society.

They do this through holding an enlightenment programme in the form of a seminar on the negative effects of hard drugs. While they are at it, Flash the Boy (Stephen Odimgbe) who takes hard drugs given to him by a fellow student, MacChukwu Ilodibe, is rushed in  almost totally disoriented.

From Flash, who is suffering from taking “a puff of solution”, the episode zeroes in on Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko) who, after being disappointed by her boyfriend, seeks solace in drinking cough syrup, one of the substances many young people abuse in order to be in a delusional state of euphoria.

Globacom explained that High People was packaged to draw attention of the public to the danger posed by the increasing number of young people who are taking solace in drugs based on a false thinking that drugs and other dangerous substances will help them to excel in life, or that such drugs will increase their ability to perform certain tasks. In an attempt to ‘get high’, many young men and women sniff gutters, sewage pipes, fuel and glue.

The lesson in the episode is drummed home by Professor Johnbull who explains that a lot of patients in the nation’s psychiatric hospitals are victims of hard drug abuse, an avoidable tragedy. He also warns that the addictive nature ofthe drugs leads to prolonged use and eventual damage to critical organs in the body.

Other regulars of the series who feature in High People are Caro (Mercy Johnson-Okojie), Churchill (Jnr. Pope Odonwodo) and  Abadnego (Martins Nebo).
