Dr Jude Edesiri Onakpoma porpularly known as Away-Away is the Original King of Modern Stand up comedy in Nigeria.

While Nigeria was blessed with Comic like John Chukwu who MC Nigeria National day and host of other events, this young undergraduate student of the University of Benin stormed Lagos in the 80’s with pure stand-up comedy performing from top night clubs -Nite shift, where Papa JC saw him and took him under his wings and quickly admitted “I’ve found the one to take over”.

AwayAway style was unique, his jokes were original and funny. He introduced Nigeria to Stand-Up comedy when he performed at the Maiden edition of PMAN award in 1989, that was widely televised. AwayAway was a constant Newspaper top entertainment stories in the 80’s. No social media.

He had a federal scholarship to America for his Doctoral degree. While in Uniben, he was an actor in TV series “Assizes” Bendel playhouse, guest actor in Hotel de Jordan etc. He was on radio Bendel with his signature chant “Away Awaaaaay” “I go die oooo” after cracking jokes.

He is Delta State born (Urhobo man). He is based in the United States since 1989. He holds a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology. He is an entrepreneur, and entertainer. He is flamboyant with his fleets of exotic cars and his stylish country home in Connecticut USA.

The veteran comedian said: “Oh boy, Na we start the game before social media and Nollywood.”
