The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed reports claiming that it arrested the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over the ongoing investigation into the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) controversy.

In a statement released on Tuesday, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare explained that Gbajabiamila voluntarily appeared before investigators after receiving an invitation and was allowed to leave after answering questions.

The statement read: “The Commission confirms that the Chief of Staff’s visit was at the invitation of its investigators and was part of efforts to gather relevant facts on the matter. He was not arrested; he simply honoured the invitation willingly.”

The ICPC added that investigations into the PFIPC controversy are still ongoing, with further updates to be provided when necessary.

Meanwhile, Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, had earlier revealed on Monday that the presidential aide appeared before the commission to respond to questions regarding the alleged PFIPC scandal.

The investigation was launched following President Bola Tinubu’s directive on July 2, ordering the ICPC to conduct a thorough probe into the controversy. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga also stated that the President had directed the commission to complete the investigation and submit a detailed report within 30 days.
