River State has over one year been a film galleria among every other states in the nation and the reason why attention has been on the south-south state is no other but the political differences which has placed governor of the state, Rotimi Ameachi against president Goodluck Jonathan.

The crisis has been so fierce that the former defected from his hitherto party, PDP to APC. Other factor that has made the case an interesting one was the ceaseless clash of the governor and the former police commissioner of the state, Joseph Mbu as well as that between the governor and his former Chief of Staff, Nyesom Wike, who resigned from the national cabinet to try his hand in the governorship race of the state. Another crisis that has engulfed the state in recent times has been on the heel of the governorship ambition of former minister of state for education, Wike. Some other PDP members in the state are not favourably disposed to Wike’s ambition and this has brought about so much tension and trouble, even physical combat has not been spared in the case.

Information at our disposal has it that Wike’s ambition has led to a cold war between two respected and revered personalities in the land. They are former dreaded militant leaders, Ateke Tom and the wife of the president, Dame Patience Jonathan. According to reliable sources, Ateke and Dame, who hail from Okrika community of the state are said to be presently on what could be said to be a parallel line as far as who gets PDP gubernatorial ticket is concerned because they have different views and candidates for the plum job. While it is no longer a secret that the first lady is backing the ambition of Nyesom Wike, those who are conversant of the events in the state would have also noticed that Ateke is not favourably disposed to Wike’s ambition. Part of the reason why Ateke is against Wike’s ambition is because he comes from the same place where the outgoing governor, Amaechi comes from and he’s said to be against an Ikwere man taking over the mantle of leadership of the state after an Ikwere has ruled for eight years. Ateke, it was learnt was rooting for Sekibo until events took another dimension.

Furthermore, Ateke, sources revealed may indicate his intention to run for the governorship of the state if the first lady would not soft pedal on her support for Wike.  Sources revealed Ateke is poised to take on the first lady because he’s alleged to have once gone against his own wish and that of the leaders of Okrika community to suit the first lady and he feels his views must be respected this time around also.

We were also informed that Ateke visited the seat of power, Aso Rock to see the president some days ago but the subject of discussion could not be ascertained, even though, sources are of the opinion that it cannot be far from the PDP governorship ticket that is brewing so much trouble in Rivers State.
