Two Hundred A ‘Ibom Youths To Acquire Skills In Power Sector Development

Udom EmmanuelAkwa Ibom State government has sent forth two hundred of it Youths for manpower development in the power sector. The beneficiaries are to undergo a 1year training at the National Power Training Institute, Abuja.

Addressing the Youths before their departure at the Government House, Uyo, Governor Udom Emmanuel charged them to justify the huge investment on them and make the best out of the training.

He explained that the programme which is designed to equip the trainees with the basic skills involved in power generation, distribution and maintenance, is an initiative of the Federal Government meant for one hundred participants per session and that he has decided to increase the number to two hundred to open up more opportunities for Akwa Ibom people to benefit.

He urged the beneficiaries to embrace the programme with entrepreneurial zeal so as to derive maximum advantage of the training for their self sustainability and congratulated them for making the list of the first batch of the trainees

While appreciating the decision of the Training Institute to accommodate additional one hundred trainees sponsored by the state government, the Governor charged the trainees to take the programme seriously stating that power sector which is a money spinning venture, offers vast employment opportunity.

Earlier, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Power, Engr. Mmeyene Etukudoh, in his speech, lauded the state government’s decision to expose the youths to skills in the power sector and said that the programme would enable the state to explore long term benefits of the power generation License awarded by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission. He called on the beneficiaries to see the training programme as a spring board for self actualisation.

In their separate speeches, the Commissioner for Youth And Sports, Mr. Monday Uko and the Special Assistant on Youth Matters, Mr. Aniefiok Iwa-Udofia, spoke in glowing terms of the training stating that with the expected increment in power generation, the state is set for the actualisation of it industrialisation blueprints. Mr. Monday Uko particularly charged the beneficiaries to be good Ambassadors of the state.
