Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron Resumes

joshua-okpoMaritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron is set to resume on Sunday October 12 to commence the new academic session.

While announcing the resumption date for fresh cadets Joshua Okpo. Rector of the academy noted that the suspension of mandatory courses and other short courses organized by the Consultancy unit have also resume. The earlier shift in the resumption date from August to October according to Okpo was in line with Federal Government’s directive to enable the Medical team of the academy acquire the equipment required to contain and manage any symptoms of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) that may be noticed within the Academy Community. Already, Management of the institution has erected a fully equipped and secured quarantine centre capable of catering for any Ebola case. The entire academy and its staff has also been sensitized through well coordinated EVD – trained medical professionals

Okpo also noted that management, staff, Cadets and visitors to the academy are to subject themselves to Ebola checks before they will be allowed into the campus. Meanwhile Okpo noted that due to the constraint of facilities the Academy was incapable of admitting several thousands of cadets for the present session as it did in the last two sessions. The Rector however, emphasised that only the best candidate’s in terms of academic and individual performances were given priority and that merit was the top most criteria in the selection of the successful candidates.
