A Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, Latin Foundation said it has empowered hundreds of widows, orphans and less privileged youths in the society.
The Promoter of the foundation, Bolaji Amusan disclosed this at the 4th Annual edition of Mr. Latin Foundation Lecture held recently at the hall of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.
Amusan, a popular Yoruba Comedian, said the foundation embarked on the gestures as part of its responsibilities to contribute meaningfully towards the positive growth of the society and the needy, as well as to support the government in the area of welfarism.
He also disclosed that, the foundation Skill Acquisition Centre under construction at Ita-Elega, Abeokuta to cater for free training for the jobless youths was at advanced state of completion, but appealed for further support from government, corporate bodies and individuals.
Amusan expressed his delight at the large turnout of invitees particularly officials of the Ogun State Government and who is who in the music and theatre industries.
He pledged never to relent in his efforts in wiping tears from the eyes of the masses and make the society a better place for all.
The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun in his remark appealed the need to encourage successful entertainers to imbibe the spirit of uplifting the needy in their various communities.
He also noted that an individual personality like Mr. Amusan had demonstrated a social responsibility which every government require for development.
Gov. Amosun pointed out that his love for culture and the talents being displayed by artists encouraged him to create the Ministry of Arts and Culture in the State.
“It’s always a pleasure for me to see our youths doing wonderfully well in their chosen vocations especially in drama, music and other vocations that showcase our culture which in turn adds value to what we are doing. I monitor what you do in alleviating the plights of widows, orphans and other enlightenment programmes. As a government, we are ready to collaborate with you to develop our state and to follow the rich legacies of our forebears”, the Governor affirmed.
In his lecture, the Fuji music maestro, Adewale Ayuba enjoined the affluent in the society not to look down on others but see areas of helping the less privileged;
‘What make a celebrity a star are the fans and no star must look down on his fans if he wants to go far. Don’t allow your reputation to get into your head. Don’t relegate your fans because without them you can’t be a star,” he disclosed.
The event also featured presentation of awards to the wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, the ace juju singer Mr. Sunday Adegeye, popularly called King Sunny Ade, Adegoke Adetunji (Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission), Wasiu Ayinde Marshal among others.
