Governor Charles Soludo’s government has decided to construct a rehabilitation centre at Nibo, Awka, to address the state’s mental health issues for the people of Anambra State.

The decision was reached at the 12th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) held at the new government house called the Light House, Awka.

According to the State’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the move will allow those who leave the state’s asylums to access rehabilitation facilities that provide all the services they need to fully heal before returning to their families and communities.

Mefor stated that the initiative aligns with Governor Soludo’s healthcare service delivery to the people of the state, to keep them healthy, and this includes their mental well-being. As part of his free healthcare services to pregnant women in the state, Soludo has approved the contract for the supply of routine antenatal medicines and associated services for the state’s free antenatal and delivery services initiative for the first half, from January to June 2025.

Soludo, who was recognised as the most performing governor in primary healthcare in the Southeast region and overall nationally, at the ninth Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting, also awarded the contract for the reconstruction and fortification of the collapsed part of the perimeter fence and drainages at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital at Nawfia.

The governor, in his infrastructural drive to revamp the healthcare sector, has upgraded primary healthcare centres and constructed five new general hospitals, equipping them with first-rate facilities and skilled personnel for efficient, affordable, and quality healthcare services.

To further enhance the sector, the governor employed 1,000 health workers, including doctors, nurses, consultants, pharmacists, and medical laboratory technicians, and introduced telemedicine for efficient healthcare solutions.
