Gov. El-Rufai Commends WIC On Peace Building Efforts

El-RufaiKaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-rufai has commended the Women Interfaith Council (WIC) Kaduna untiring peace building efforts in ensuring peaceful co-existence among women of the state irrespective of their ethno-religious differences.

This commendation was given during the WIC Muslim members 1st annual Ramadan lecture and support program for widows and orphans. Zainab Tanimu, Top Celebrities Magazine Correspondent was there.

The Director General, Bureau for Interfaith, Engineer Namadi Musa, who represented the governor at the event disclosed this. His Excellency in his magnanimity has also approved ‎a land allocation for the council to erect their office. The D-G urged the women not to relent in their stride to ensuring that peace is sustained in the state while assuring them of government support in their cause.

Earlier, the WIC Muslim Coordinator, Hajiya Daharatu Ahmed Aliyu in her welcome address had explained that the interfaith forum of Muslim and Christian Women Association also known as Women Interfaith Council (WIC) provides a platform for leaders and members of Muslim and Christian women’s faith organizations to work together in the peace building processes as well as address common women related and conflict issues in the state. Some of the efforts of the council she said include the support of the less privileged in the society.

“What we are into is to champion the course of peace irrespective of our ethno religious differences. As women and mothers of peace, we are urging the society especially the well to do to key into supporting the less privilege in the society. Women most especially suffer the grunt of whatever crisis. Some are widowed without anything to fall back on. According to statistics their children constitute the highest number of malnourished. This is why we are using this holy month of Ramadan to share the little we have to the less privilege and by so doing flagging off support program for the widows and orphans.”

The Christian Coordinator, Mrs Elizabeth Abuk called on all and sundry to always engage in activities that will further bring about religious harmony among all. We are brothers and sisters created by one God. We have women under CAN, like ECOWA, and under the Muslim, we have women in DAWAH, NASFAT etc all coming together under one umbrella for the purpose of peace.

“Lets begin to accept each other, lets begin to interact more with each other and then we would achieve the peace we are craving for. We are appealing to the state government to always involve more women when constituting peace committee and other related committees for positive result”.

The Chairperson, Peace Committee, Hajiya Rabi Bicham in the spirit of Ramadan fast and to further cement peace and unity amongst the Christian and Muslim women had in her own little way hosted the women to breaking of Ramadan fast.

In his keynote lecture, Chief Imam Waff road mosque, Imam Sani Isa   on the theme of the lecture, ‘The essence of Ramadan: the role of Muslim women in promotion of peace’‎ took the women in attendance on their roles as enshrined in the holy Qur’an when it comes to the issue of  promoting of peace. Promoting of peace in their homes, offices and most importantly, relationship with one another is very vital to sustainable development.

Women are very vital instruments to promoting peace. He stressed.
