Femi Ojudu Confesses

Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters has made a shocking revelation…

“Olasunkanmi Temitope Ojudu is a lawyer, a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Yes , he was called to the bar today. In the spirit of the free spirit of our age Sunkanmi doesn’t want to be a lawyer though he is officially one now. He will rather be a musician, particularly the production aspect of it.”

“A couple of weeks ago Sunkanmi , who has taken up the stage name Morello , came to my room early morning in Abuja. “Dad I have completed my final bar exams yesterday. I did it to satisfy you and mum. I hope to pass but law is not my passion. Music is , and I hope you will support me,” he said.”

“I mustered enough courage and politeness to say “yes son I will”. What can one do. It is his choice. It is about him. From adolescence he has been fantastic on the piano, saxophone, drums, guitar and many other musical instruments he compelled me to buy for him.”

“In high school he and his younger brother, now an investment banker with JP Morgan, sneaked into a recording studio in Lagos and did a song which they sent to me. They both rapped on about some girls they are in love with. I received that with a mixed feeling. I was pleasantly surprised and concerned at the same time.”

“Something kept telling me that it is not the right way to go just as my dad also felt journalism was not the right way for me but allowed me to pursue my passion. I did everything possible to discourage them even to the point of having to separate them in high school and also went ahead to change Sunkanmi’s university where he had formed a band.”

“Bidemi eventually found another passion but Sunkanmi held on to his. His mum was the most traumatized. Long after I have given up persuading him that fame in music is only for a few seasons (with exception of a few) his mum continued agonizing and doing everything possible to dissuade him.”

As it is Sunkanmi held on to his passion and continued with his compositions and productions. My house was turned into a studio and I wake up every morning with the sound of saxophone and ukulele.”

“He has eventually come up with a trough of compositions : Jazz, dance hall, reggae, Felas African Music, some of which as a connoisseur of music myself I can affirm to be great. I once sent a number ‘Fela Things ‘to Seun Kuti and his verdict was that it was excellent. I wish him all the best in his musical endeavor even as he wears his wig and gown today. Go son!”
