Yewa Elders Beg Amosun For Support

In an apparent desperate bid to produce the next Governor of Ogun State come 2019, a group of Yewa elders have appealed to Governor Ibikunle Amosun for his political support.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun

The group which was led by Deacon Poju Adeyemi, a two time former Secretary to Ogun State Government met with the governor at his office on Wednesday 22nd November, 2017.

It would be recalled that a group of Ogun East Elders last week has endorsed Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, Commissioner of Commerce and Industry in Ogun State as their governorship candidate for 2019.

A development which seems to have not only cast a dark shadow on ambition of Ogun West Senatorial District to produce Amosun’s successor but also sent a signal that he the governor may not be sincere enough to support Yewa in producing the next governor as earlier promised by him.

Some of the elders that spoke at the meeting include; Professor Anthony Asiwaju who pleaded with the governor to lead them concretely which particular candidate they should support towards 2019.

Also, Professor Biyi Afonja, a frontline educationist said the region is ready to work together with anybody who can help to actualise their dream.

Furthermore, Senator Kola Bajomo, appealed to the elders to set up a process to actualise their goal. While responding, the governor reiterated his stand that he will not handover to anyone considered to be a non-indigene of the state. He affirmed that he has not changed his position on the support for Ogun West to produce next governor in 2019.

No fewer than six persons who are loyalists of the governor are jostling for his seat in the coming election. They are; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Suraj Adekumbi, his Chief of Staff, Tolu Odebiyi, a former member of the House of Representatives (Ipokia), Abiodun Akinlade, a Commissioner for Forestry, Kola Lawal, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Bimbo Ashiru and a member of the House of Representatives from Ipokia/Yewa South, Kabir Akinlade.

He however, said, he will not handover to ‘Atohunrinwa’ in 2019, saying, instead, he might consider, Isiaka, Paseda or Adebutu for the post.

He said; “I am not God, we are human. Where we are today, it’s God’s doing. It will be an insult for our forbears. No ‘Atohunrinwa’ will be allowed.”

Mamora, Jimi Lawal, GNI, Paseda are all from here. We know them .We know ourselves. In my mind, I know who will be the candidate, but, I will not allow ‘Atohunrinwa’.”

“When you see GNI, do you see him going round to take pictures with traditional rulers anyhow? One of your sons or daughters will be governor.”

“It will not be under my watch, that a non-indigene will be governor. They came to me before with Isaga-Orile and I said it is under Abeokuta North. They move from one place to another.”
