Leading PDP governorship aspirant in Kogi State, Victor Alewo Adoji escaped death by whiskers when gunmen invaded the governorship primary election holding at Lokoja Confluence Stadium on Wednesday, September 4th, 2019.

He revealed that; “Foremost, my heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives and the several who were injured by either direct hits or by reason of an attempt to fly to safety.”

“My agent who was particularly targeted is currently treating bullet and assault wounds and so are many others including Captain Joe Agada whose head is currently been held in place by stitches.”

“To say the least, this is an unfortunate and unacceptable development and situates our State and democracy in the realm of war and limitless desire to conquer, to destroy and to kill.”

“It’s still too early to make conclusions but I must be clear that collusion between desperate members from within and accomplices cannot be ruled-out.”

“It was clear that the outcome would have been so upsetting and illicit actions such as this had to happen if only to save face not minding the cost to property and lives.”

“Clearly, these are signs of what’s to come but we are undaunted. I am now safe and out of danger and I am deeply grateful to those who gave me legs to ‘escape’.”

“I appeal to all our co-travelers to remain calm and committed as events unfold.”

Sources said that voting had ended and sorting of votes was going on when the gunmen came to the venue at about 1:45 a.m. and started shooting from different directions.

Sources added that votes in eight out of the 10 ballot boxes have already been counted and sorted out before the disruption by the gunmen.

Aspirants, delegates and others scampered for safety while the number of casualties has yet to be ascertained. Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee escaped the bullets of the gunmen.
