The Urhobo Ovuovo Union, an umbrella body of Urhobos resident from Badagry to Seme, Lagos has joined other Nigerians to facilitate with De Whenu Aholu Menu Toyi 1, the Akran of Badagry on his majesty’s 80th birthday celebration.

The Urhobo community described Oba Akran as a peace-loving monarch who has so much love for everybody no matter where he or she comes from.

In a statement signed by Ovie Edomi, Sir  Efe Okoro and Olorogun Emmanuel Itabuno, the Urhobo leaders attributed the serenity of Badagry, an ancient tourist town to the outstanding quality of the king and his good relationship with inhabitants and visitors to the town.

They urged other kings and high chiefs in the area to emulate Oba Akran, especially now that investors are likely to be attracted to the area with the discovery of crude oil in commercial quality in Badagry,Lagos.

Edomi, who is also the President of League of Maritime Editors and Editor-in-Chief of South South international magazine noted that  the deep sea port project in Badagry will boost the economic activities in the ancient town where Christianity was first preached in Nigeria. Besides, Edomi noted that since over 85 per cent of goods and services enter Nigeria through the sea ports, a deep sea port in Badagry will  make bigger ships to  traffic their goods to  Nigeria using the Badagry deep sea port instead of patronising ports of neighboring countries. A development which Edomi says will created employment for a lot of young adults in Lagos as well as increase the nation’s earnings. He urged young adults to take advantage of the vast opportunities that the deep sea port project and the discovery of oil provide to the inhabitants and urged the ministry of Transportation to see to the completion of the deep sea port.

The group equally commended Chief Ahwi Vincent as the OSU R Urhobo in Lagos following his election recently.

The Urhobo Ovuovo Union called on sons and daughters of Oduduwa and all Nigerians to pray for long life and good health for Oba Akran as well as for the monarch to see Badagry become the hub of commercial activities in Lagos State. The group  which commended,His Excellency governor Ambode for his good works in Lagos, equally urged the Urhobos in Lagos to support, Chief Ahwi, the new OSU R Urhob.
