The EFCC operatives have arrested the Accountant-General of Taraba State, Mr. Joel Lenbang over an alleged fraud of N1.56billion. He has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Jalingo which has remanded him in prison.

The EFCC had received a petition from Taraba State indigene which prompted investigations into activities of the Accountant-General of the state.

According to the EFCC, investigations revealed a systemic withdrawal of state funds through a scheme masterminded by the Accountant-General, the EFCC added withdrawals were made under the guise that monies were used in sundry payments on behalf of ministries, departments and agencies as well as payment of bank commission on turn-over and value added tax which became a monthly affair.

EFCC investigations further revealed that a total sum of N1,567,226,557,081 has been looted from the state treasury between January 2012 and December, 2013.
