Political scene of Ogun State witnessed an awry dimension last week when the long battle between Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his Deputy Prince Segun Adesegun was celebrated on the pages of News papers to the embarrassment of the ruling party in the State.

To those in the know, the recently publicised war between the duo has been raging even before they were both sworn in on May 29th 2011.

It would be recalled that the incumbent governor joined the then Action Congress Of Nigeria (ACN) few months to the general election but was not only given waiver but also the Governorship ticket of the party despite protests by other aspirants who have been in the party before him.

However, some conditions we heard accompanied the ticket.

According to insiders, part of the conditions actually forced Amosun to accept Prince Segun Adesegun as his running mate against his own choice of Elizabeth Sonubi his long time political associate.

Adesegun, a commissioner for finance during Chief Olusegun Osoba’s regime has never only enjoyed his position as Deputy Governor since assumption in office not only because of his loyalty to his political leader but also because he found himself in a strange political atmosphere among the followers of Governor Amosun who are hell bent on taking over the structure of the party.

Apart from being denied of access to governance, the Ago Iwoye born politician have been subjected to various ridicule by the Governor and his aides such as being locked out of office for coming after the Governor’s arrival.

We also learnt he was denied of having any influence during the Local Government elections even at his own ward!

The Deputy Governor who apart from not given any portfolio we learnt was never allowed to contribute during the State weekly Executive meetings, a development which according to insiders led to several altercations between him and the Governor when he was asked not attend the meetings with phones.

The last straw which seems to have broken the camel’s back is the latest crises that engulfed APC and sees Chief Olusegun Osoba and his followers leaving the party after losing its control to the incumbent Governor.

While it is not only crystal clear to Adesegun that he would not return with Amosun in 2015 as his deputy, rumour also has it that Osoba faction is actually planning to field Adesegun as their Governorship candidate in their proposed new party.

Meanwhile, those in the know of the long time battle between the duo had not only posited the exposure of what was going on is long over due to be reported in the media as both of them never campaigned together during build up to the 2011 elections but also expressed disappointment in Amosun for treating his deputy in such crude manner.

Also, the opposition parties are not only using the situation against the second term ambition of Governor Amosun but as well taking advantage of the situation by wooing Adesegun to their side through gift of brand new cars by Prince Buruji Kashamu, the major financier of PDP.

According to political observers in the State, the current situation is a signal to the incumbent Governor that his administration is indeed losing political grip of the State to the opposition.
