While it is no more news that the duo of Honourables Abiodun Akinlade and Adijat Adeleye have now returned to their old parties (PDP) amid fanfare; the development has, however, generated controversies not only among APC followers but also within political circle in Ogun State.
It would be recalled that both of them angrily left the umbrella party during the twilight of OGD administration as a result of crises that bedevilled the party in 2011.
Akinlade who is a third time member of House of Representatives with a record of two times as PDP member before pitching his political tent with ACN in 2011 returned to his old party in order to seek the party’s gubernatorial ticket having realised the hurdles before him due to the incumbent Governor’s second term ambition.
On her own, Adijat Adeleye, a second timer at the Ogun State House of Assembly who also left the then ruling party, PDP after a fierce battle with OGD for ACN in 2011 has not been in good terms with incumbent Governor Amosun since he denied her Deputy Speaker’s position of the hallowed chamber and as a result, her ambition of clinching the ticket of APC to contest for House Of Representatives is in jeopardy.
The duo who has not only been known as siamese twins in the political circle of the State but also suspected of having intimate affairsm officially dumped the broom party recently at different forums and therefore laid credence to flying rumours of their defection plans.
Also, the lingering feud between the two main gladiators of APC in Ogun State, former Governor Olusegun Osoba and incumbent Governor Ibikunle Amosun has been identified as another factor that caused their crossing back to PDP in order not to sink with the drowning Ogun APC.
While some political observers in the State attribute the duo defection back to PDP, insiders had also revealed it is as a result of paying back the Governor in his own coin as he has been alleged of betraying them after orchestrating his emergence as Governor in 2011.
Both Akinlade and Adijat are not only known as grassroots mobilisers but were recognised for playing major roles in Amosun’s ambition of ruling Ogun State.
Meanwhile, Akinlade who has been received back into the fold of PDP like a prodigal son seems to be facing another herculean task ahead not only because of the numbers of those who have shown interest so far to fly on the ticket of PDP but calibre of the people with intimidating track record of sustaining the party’s structure during his political sojourn to ACN/APC.
