The Convener of the Peter Obi Movement, a grassroot indépendant support structure for the Labour party presidential candidate has described a statement credited to Mr Bayo Onanuga, Director of Media for the Tinubu Campaign Organisation as unfortunate and a huge disappointment.
Pastor Ime-James said: “I have just read media reports where Bayo Onanuga referred to Peter Obi Supporters as Moronic in this age of civility and democracy. It is sad that he harbours so much bitterness against Peter Obi and his supporters as does his principal.”
This is not the Nigeria we are trying to build. This attitude is taking us back to the dark ages.
According to Pastor Ime James the POM National Convener, Mr Onanuga had a right to disagree with Mr Peter Obi’s Campaign promise to remove Nigeria from a consumption to a production economy which he sees as senseless.
In breaking down the issues, he explained:
“Nigeria is presently, and sadly so, a Consumption economy. We are the dumping ground for all kinds of products from all over the world. What Peter Obi proposes is to encourage Nigerian businesses to start producing almost all we consume to conserve foreign exchange and create jobs locally hereby helping to boost our economy.”
This policy thrust of Mr Peter Obi, he describes as Elementary economics which Mr Onanuga is apparently ignorant of because his party, the APC which plunged Nigeria into the economic mess we find ourselves in presently and has no concrete economic strategy to revamp the Nigerian economy.
He said: “He should be applauding Peter Obi instead of trying to shoot him down and insulting his supporters for postulating a flawless economic strategy that will make Nigeria an economic giant”
