The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Edo State, ahead of the Saturday, March 9th, 2019 governorship and State Assembly elections told Tonia Nwachukwu of Top Celebrities Magazine that Osaro Obazee remains the recognised candidate for Oredo East Constituency that they do not know, nor recognise any other candidate or whatsoever.
Mr. Azebamwen was reacting to a recent judgment by a Benin Federal High Court Wednesday setting Aside the candidacy of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oredo East State Constituency, Mr. Osaro Obazee ahead of the House of Assembly election.
Delivering judgement in the suite filed by Mr Ekhosuehi Eghosa, challenging Obazee’s candidacy, Justice (Mrs) Adefunmilola Demi – Ajayi held that the defendant was not the rightful nominated candidate of the party.
The plaintiff had prayed the court to set aside Obazee’s nomination for the State Assembly poll. Eghosa further told the court that the defendant neither purchased nomination nor expression of interest form for the House of Assembly.
Speaking further, Azebamwen said: “The APC maintains the position that whilst we hold the judiciary in the highest esteem, we insist as a political party, that it is our right to produce the candidate that will represent us in elections.”
“The leadership of our great party will do everything necessary and explore all legal options to ensure that the mandate which we collectively gave Hon. Obazee to fly our flag in the elections of Saturday, March 9, 2019 remains valid.”
Finally, Azebamwen charged party supporters to keep faith and remain steadfast.
However, Obazee expressed optimism that he is going to the poll on Saturday as the rightful candidate who was fully recognised by both his party and INEC.
He appealed to his teaming supporters not to worry about the recent development, while calling on them to come out on Saturday to cast their votes for him.
