Ogun First Lady Honours Pupils

Funso AmosunA pupil of Federal University of Agriculture Staff School in Abeokuta, Faridah Jubril penultimate week emerged as the overall winner of the 3rd Edition of Ogun State Ramadan Essay/Quiz Competition for the Poem Category for the primary schools with her classical work entitled: “Ramadan: The Month of Peace.”

Her presentation was adjudged the best poem by the panel of judges from scores of entries submitted by the primary school pupils across the length and breadth of Ogun State.

The competition also produced Somide Umar of NUD Junior Grammar School, Obantoko in Abeokuta as the overall winner of the Qua’ran Recitation; while Fadeelah Salami of NUD Grammar School, Obantoko in Abeokuta emerged as the overall winner for the Debate/Essay category for the Senior Secondary Schools.

The annual Ramadan Essay and Quiz Competition for primary and secondary schools in Ogun State, was initiated by the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun in 2012 with the aim of encouraging Muslim children during the Ramadan period to be vast in the teachings and doctrines of Allah as espoused in the Holy Qua’ran.

The final stage of competition, which took place over the weekend at Reverend Kuti Memorial Grammar School in Abeokuta, brought together winners at the zonal/divisional levels, from which the three overall winners emerged.

The competition, which was divided into three stages, featured poem writing for primary school pupils; Quiz and Qua’ran Recitation for Junior Secondary School students; and essay/debate competition for Senior Secondary Schools across the length and breadth of Ogun State.

The Essay Competition the senior secondary schools had “Sanctity of Life: The Islamic Perspective” as its theme, while the Debate Topic was “A Crime-free Society: Role of the Government or the Governed.”
