Ogidi, a town in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, is an ancient Igbo kingdom which highly values the traditional way of life of our ancestors, despite being thrust into the modern world through formal education and it’s proximity to Nkpor and Onitsha.
In the Igbo culture, the Ndi Ichie are the traditional elders of the society and guardians of the laws and ethics there, and it is the dream of freeborn Ogidi males to attain to that enviable rank of high dignity, and have a say in the assembly of the Ndi Ichie.
So it was not surprising when a massive crowd of people gathered, on Monday January 8th, 2024, to witness the Initiation Ceremony of Dr. Chukwugozie Nwachukwu Okwuosa as Okpata Ozuora 1, and Col. Dr. Chukwubuzor Udokwu Okwuosa as Agaba Idu 1, into the Ancient and Traditional Ndi Ichie of Ogidi Kingdom, in a well attended event which took place at Okwuosa Quarters, Ire Ndiagu Village, Ogidi.
The colourful ceremony witnessed a grand procession of the newly initiated Ndi Ichie, accompanied by their peers, family members friends and well wishers, as well as masquerades, the spiritual guardians of the land, and other cultural groups.
Guests were feted with a variety of delicacies and choice drinks, and went home sated.
Dr. Chukwugozie Okwuosa is of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, while his brother Col. Dr. Chukwubuzor Okwuosa, is of the Nigeria Army, and a medical specialist as well.
