The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has eventually opened up on the arrest of the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.

EFCC’s Public Relations Officer, Wilson Uwajaren said:

“Obiano has been on our watchlist for sometime now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.”

“Today he lost the immunity and was traveling out of the country before we finally arrested him”.

Obiano was arrested at the Lagos International Airport moments after he handed over to Professor Charles Soludo as the new governor of the state.

Obiano was on his way out of the country to the United States of America when he was nabbed by the EFCC.

Meanwhile, sources at the EFCC squealed to us that Obiano has been transferred from its Lagos zonal office to its headquarters in Abuja.

Sources said; “He has been moved this morning (Friday) from our Lagos zonal office to our headquarters in Abuja for proper interrogation.”

According to the sources, Obiano will be interrogated on issues involving allegations of corruption.
