Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, former Minister of State for Defence who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently is ready for war.
Insiders disclosed to us that he is ready to contest for Lagos West Senatorial District in 2019 and has started consulting political leaders across the senatorial district and engaging party leaders of Oriade LCDA ahead of the primaries.
We were told that Obanikoro would come out from Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA), though he had represented Lagos Central in the Senate (2003-2007) and had been the Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government (1998 – 2002).
Sources said Obanikoro has strong filial relationship with the area. So, he is qualified to contest senatorial election in Lagos West Senatorial District.
Be that as it may, Obanikoro’s decision to represent Lagos West Senatorial District is a direct confrontation with Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State ambition to represent the same senatorial district.
We were told that Obanikoro will have to fight the political battle of his life against Aregbesola who had in May, 2017 indicated interest to represent Lagos West Senatorial District at the Senate.
