NBC Gets New Director-General

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Balarabe Shehu Ilelah as the new Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Ilelah succeeds the Acting Director-General of the Commission, Professor Armstrong Idachaba.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed made the announcement on Friday, June 11th, 2021.

Ilelah’s appointment is five years tenure.

For those who don’t know, the new NBC Director-General is a veteran broadcaster, politician and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ileha graduated from Bayero University Kano. He had worked with NTA Bauchi before leaving Nigeria for the then Soviet Union as a journalist.

It is interesting to know that, Ilelah ran for Bauchi South Senatorial seat under the APC platform in 2019 but lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
