Nigeria Super Eagles star forward, Kelechi Iheanacho has joined Leicester City of England from fellow club-side, Manchester City.
Information at our disposal has it that the Nigerian young star has penned down a 5-year deal at the King Power Stadium with the transfer fee of £25 million which is about $32.8 million.
However, Leicester City on Thursday 3rd August, 2017 officially announced the signing of Iheanacho from English Premier League rivals, Manchester City. Responding to the new recruitment at the club, Craig Shakespeare, Leicester City Manager disclosed that: “It’s a great signing for us. Kelechi is an enormously talented player that has shown a huge amount of promise at every level in which he’s played.”
According to the elated Kelechi; “It feels good and I’m happy to be part of this team. I know the ambition of the team and speaking with the manager, he let me know what I need to do – to help the team achieve what they want. I was convinced and I’m happy to be here.”
It is interesting to also know that Kelechi Iheanacho will be wearing one of the most envied jersey numbers in the world of football, the number eight shirt. Furthermore, Kelechi is not alone at the King Power Stadium as he joins his fellow Nigeria internationals; Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa.
However, Iheanacho signed a new contract with City until 2021 at the beginning of last season but saw his first-team opportunities at the Etihad Stadium curtailed by the arrival of Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus in January. But still made nine starts and 21 substitute appearances for Pep Guardiola’s team last term, scoring nine goals.
The Nigerian star scored 21 goals in 64 appearances in all competitions since making his debut for City in 2015, while he has scored six goals in 10 games for Nigeria. His first game with his new employers will be away to Arsenal in the opening game of the new Premier League season on Friday 11th August, 2017.
