Senators-elects Abdul’aziz Yari, Jimoh Ibrahim and Elisha Abbo are ready to battle President Bola Tinubu over the choice of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the 10th Senate President.
The trio Senators-elects have called for a counter meeting slated for June 9 at 9pm at the Fraiser Suites, Abuja despite the fact that the president has met with the lawmakers and told them that he is supporting Akpabio.
Abbo and Jimoh Ibrahim are currently leading the battle for the emergence of Abdul’aziz Yari as the next Senate President.
Abdul’Aziz Yari; Jimoh Ibrahim and Elisha Abbo refused to attend the meeting called by the president where he addressed all legislators-elect of the APC.
The president told the lawmakers that:
“The President of this country and his Vice are of the Muslim faith, and it is natural and in the spirit of national unity and equity that the position of the Senate President be given to our Christian citizens. We should not be seen to wanting to kill Christianity in this country.”
However, the trio are insisting that the lawmakers should be allowed a free hand to choose leaders without any interference from the president.
