It is true that leaders who display humility leave a deep impact on their people.

That was exactly what happened on Monday when Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan entered the lobby of the prestigious Pierre hotel, New York.

Although she is Nigeria’s First Lady, her humility was evident in that she did not draw attention to herself, she and her entourage (about 10) greeted people at the lobby before she left to attend an event.

“I can’t believe that is the First Lady! Said Chima, a Nigerian New York resident who came to the hotel to have a glimpse of the first couple. I was expecting to see the First Lady in some big regalia and heavy jewelries, but she was so humble and so real and so down to earth and like she wasn’t dressed up. She was like in Ankara, and I am proud that she is my First Lady”, She said.

Mrs. Patience Jonathan also stunned the press crew on her arrival back to the hotel as she stopped at the lobby to give a hand shake to each member of the press.

For those at the lobby when the first lady arrived, the meeting lasted only a few minutes, but the memory of the display of humility by Mrs. Jonathan will linger in their hearts for a long time to come.
