Gov. Yahaya Bello In Big Trouble

Alhaji Yahaya BelloGovernor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has been accused of withdrawing the sum of N450million from the Kogi State’s Ecological Fund account without due process. Sources said the money was withdrawn without the State Executive Council in place as required by the enabling law and Kogi people are now asking questions what the money was used for.

We gathered that the N450million was withdrawn on May 16, 2016 from the Ecological Fund Account Number: 1016623580 domiciled in UBA and the law governing the Ecological Fund says it must be discussed and approved by the State Executive Council. But the money was withdrawn by the governor when there was no State Executive Council in place and there was no emergency ecological challenge in the state to have warranted such a huge spending.

The governor equally made attempts to withdraw another N450m from the infrastructure loan account with the bank but the bank refused, citing CBN guidelines that require transfers directly to contractors. Besides, the governor has also obtained a loan of N2.4 billion from a commercial bank.

We are told that the governor awarded the construction of Agasa Road in Okene LGA at the cost of N3.2 billion and the construction of nine (9) roundabouts at N100 million each without due process. Now, the people of Kogi State want the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the issue.
