Sanctuary For The Broken Hearted General Overseer, Prophetess (Dr.) Margaret Mayaki is making waves in the work of God in the United Kingdom.

In this interview, the woman of God spoke elaborately about how God used her to raise the dead, heal the sick amidst other miracles. Excerpts…

Tell us about your background?

I was born in Okenne, Kogi State, Nigeria. My late father was a policeman based in Lokoja. I had my early education in Nigeria and then I travelled to the United Kingdom in 1979.

Why did you go to the UK?

I got married at the age of 19 and relocated from Nigeria to live with my husband who was already working in London. We met in Lokoja when he came to work in Nigeria as an expatriate. He was a medical doctor. We met when a friend introduced both of us. My late husband was an Ibo man from Abia State.

Was it love at first sight?

Of course it was.

There are so many denominations and divisions in Christiandom in Nigeria. What is your advice to Ministers of God?

What is dividing Christiandom in Nigeria is the lack of love. We do not have love for one another and therefore no unity. If you look at the book of Acts from Chapter 1-4, the only reason the Holy Spirit came down is because they are all in one accord.

But in Nigeria, we have a situation where the tribe is dividing us, the doctrine is dividing the church. This one is a white garment church, the other one is a pentecostal church, this other one is Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist church and so on.

Everyone has their own path. The advice I will give is that, unless we come back to unite as one formidable church, I can’t see us penetrating or doing anything substantive in Nigeria.

The reason Christians are being pushed here and there is because we lack unity to speak with one voice, to say, ‘thus says the Lord.’ Everybody is fighting for his or her own path, my doctrine, my church, so Christiandom remains divided in Nigeria. We have to walk together in love.

Do you plan to set up more branches in Nigeria?

At the moment, I do not have a church branch in Nigeria. I had lived in the UK for 36 years before the Lord asked me to come back to Nigeria to come and lift up the hands of the women and be one of the prophetic voices in the nation. Since I started coming to Nigeria, I have been doing crusades, gather women together for the National Day of prayer.

I started that in the UK and we pray for peace and the deliverance of Nigeria. We pray for the leadership of the nation too. I will eventually have a church in Nigeria but presently I am taking each step, one at a time.

What is your advice to Nigerian Christian women experiencing difficulties in marriages?

Well, it is Jesus Christ that instituted the institution of marriage, I am no expert on this but I will say that any relationship that you are in and there is violence, you must get out to hide yourself and preserve yourself. But if there is no violence, no emotional blackmail, then the partners in the marriage need counselling or they need to heal because there must be something that caused the crack in the marriage may be infidelity or there is no more money coming in because money can also be a major problem in a relationship. Perhaps one of the partners is not taking up their responsibilities in the marriage.

Chirst is the head of the church, just as the man is the head of the family. The man is the head but we are the neck. You know unless the neck turns the head cannot turn, so it takes two people to be committed to a relationship for it to work.

Some prominent pastors in Nigeria are having marital crises. What can you say about this?

Let me tell you something, the Lord told me few years ago, that satan is fighting the home of pastors. The bible says strike the shepherd and the flock will scatter. When the devil attackes the man of God, it is not the man and his home only that the devil is after, it is the flock. It is that man’s ministry, it is the call of that man or the call of God upon that man that the devil is after.

Remember that if there is no Spirit of God in the church, the church cannot move forward. The devil can move into the home through the man or the woman if both of them are not discerning the spirit.

We wrestle not against principalities. Again, when some of us Ministers of God got married, we were not in the ministry, we had not received the call. If we were, we would have prayed through before marriage.

Most of us did not pray before we got married. That’s the truth of the matter, now some of us have joined ourselves in marriage with partners that we are not compatible with spiritually. If such couples are ready to work on their marriages, then there will be restoration. But if they have the attitude of ‘I don’t care’, then that is it.

Considering the fact that you have been away for a long time, are you sure you can adapt to the Nigerian setting?

Of course, I was in Nigeria in 2014, that was when God told me to move. The reason I returned back to London is because my family are still in London. I plan to shuttle between Nigeria and the UK. I speak Igbirra, Yoruba and Igbo language.

What are the challenges you face as a female minister?

One of the challenges I face, though not just me as female ministers all over the world is the fact that some churches do not believe that women should be in leadership in the church because of the statement Apostle Paul made in Corinthians that women should keep quiet.

People took that statement out of context because if you read it very well, it has a different interpretation. You know in those days, women used to sit on the same side with their husbands and maybe they were not listening because of side chats with their husbands, Apostle Paul then said that the women should keep quiet and that when they get home, they should ask their husbands what they did not understand.

That does not mean that women are not called into ministries because when you look at Acts, the Bible says that He has poured His Spirit on all flesh. Both male and female. The problem we are also having is that women have not yet found their feet. It is only very few and that’s in America where we have people like Doris Myers, Paula Whyte. Those ones in the US are finding their feet.

In England, women are not as prominent as the men. I am a Prophetess, but I know that in Nigeria our voices are not loud enough. Maybe we can attribute that to culture in Africa, it is said that women are seen and not heard. Women are mostly meant to be housewives. So, when you see a woman come out and on fire, speaking up boldly, meeting presidents, with God using them to bless nations, I think we need to accept it and I pray that God will continue to open doors for us.

God has been using you to do miracles in the UK, tell us about it

First, the Spirit of God poured on all flesh, old and young. When a friend’s family member died in St. Thomas Hospital, a famous hospital in London, I was there at the time that the man had been declared dead already. We were about 12 people in the room. I was about going out of the room when the Spirit of the Lord said to me to go back and annoint the dead body.

So, I went back. It was just the relations of the man that was in the room while the doctors and nurses were in the corridor. They had already covered the dead man with a white cloth. I told the people in the room that God said I should lay hands on the dead man and anoint him. They laughed. Some said I must be a joker while some asked if I wanted to perform magic.

I told them I heard the voice of the Lord. I took out my annointing oil from my bag, opened the cloth and his whole body was cold. I said two prayers while the people in the room looked at me. I said I bind the spirit of the dead over you and I released the Spirit of God upon you. That was the simple prayer I prayed. I covered him back and knelt down beside the bed.

Two minutes later, the dead man got up. All the people in the room started screaming. There was a stampede as people ran in and ran out. The doctors and nurses came in and asked; ‘what is going on here’? They saw the man sitting down. They said we thought we had lost you Sir? That was how God performed His miracle.

The word got around. There were some atheist in that room. The man who asked what magic I wanted to perform gave his life to Jesus after that one act of miracle. And that was just one! And there has been many more.

Tell us about other miracles?

There was a young man who had swollen body. He had been in and out of hospital for long and I was told, I went to visit him there at the hospital and I prayed for him and anointed him. Behold the next day, the mom called me and said Prophetess, something has happened. She said the swollen body had gone down. I told her it is God.

It was at the weekend and the young man was discharged. There has been healing of cancer and I know about many women who have been barren but became fruitful. There was also the case of my sister who was ill in Ikenne and by the time I got there, her body had turned black and her hair colour had changed.

I prayed for her at the women’s wing of the hospital and there were other women in the ward, I asked them if they also wanted me to pray for them and they all said yes. I prayed for them and the next morning my sister called me and said, aunty, I am at home. I asked how, she said she has been discharged along with all the women in that wing of the hospital. So that’s the God I serve.

You have an NGO that takes care of the less privileged, how do you finance it?

By the grace of God I have already bought the land that I intend to build an orphanage in Okenne. The money came from God. When I went to Bible College in America, I saw an angel of the Lord in the night and he told me that the land will be in Lokoja and I said I don’t know anybody there and who is going to give me the huge land. But to the glory of God, when I came in contact with the former governor of the state, we got talking and he asked if I needed land.

He said I can come to Nigeria that he will give me land. When I got to Nigeria I was allocated the land and I paid for the land. But the project I have in mind is huge not something that I can handle alone but I know the grace of God is sufficient.

You are a female Minister of God, it is natural that men will be attracted to you, how do you handle such?

You know everything in life is for a purpose. If you know what God has purposed for you, there is every likelihood that you will face it. Yes I am a female, men are obviously attracted to me. But I have an assignment and I am focused on what God has called me to do. I am not interested in any of such relationships because the reason for my call is the assignment.
