These are not the best of times for Rivers State ex-governor, Celestine Omehia.

The political war between him and the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike has taken a frightening dimension.

This was what Wike said about him recently…

“If the Assembly made a mistake, and they have now realised their mistake, what is wrong with that?”

“I have signed the instrument of derecognition and he seizes to exist a former governor.”

“But Omehia has to pay N696.5 million entitlements or he challenges us in court. The Attorney General will advise us on what to do because the state government has a number of options to take.”

For those who don’t know, the Rivers State House of Assembly has derecognised him as former governor of the state and has asked him to refund N696.5 million entitlements and pensions and other sums he collected so far within 7 days.

Besides, his portrait has been removed from the Government House, Port-Harcourt.

On 25 October 2007, the Supreme Court sacked Sir Celestine Omehia. The Court ruled that Constitutionally he was never a governor and should not enjoy anything in form of benefits and entitlements as a former governor.

Then Governor Rotimi Ameachi ordered the removal of Omehia’s Portrait from the Government House.

However, Wike restored Omehia’s Portrait back to the government house two years after he was sworn in as governor of Rivers State on May 29, 2015.

Thereafter, Wike paid all entitlements to Omehia. He bought him a car and built him a house.

In the fallout of the PDP Presidential Primaries which Atiku won, Omehia took sides with Atiku against Wike.
