Recently, Lawrence Okafor spoke with Top Celebrities Magazine on the programmes and projects that will be close to his heart if he is elected Chairman, Ezeagu LGA.

EXCERPTS:

Sir, just one question. What will you do if you are elected Chairman, Ezeagu Local Government Area?

That’s a good question, because there’s a lot to be done. First, our children and youth are our future. That future is based on education, ICT, and acquisition of required skills. We will work hard to create and sustain programmes for the children and youth, with education as a priority.

Again, it is said that health is wealth. We will, therefore, build new health centres, revive the moribund ones, and improve our healthcare delivery system.

Ezeagu is an agrarian zone, and agriculture will be another area of interest to be looked into. We aim to revive our farm settlements, introduce mechanised agriculture, and improve agricultural extension services across board.

We will tackle the perennial problem of water scarcity, and maintain a sustained public works and infrastructure development.

In the area of power and energy, we envision a programme to be called ‘ Light Up Ezeagu ‘, in which we will acquire and widely deploy solar energy systems to all the communities in Ezeagu.

Women and senior citizens have been neglected for far too long. We have programmes and projects that will take care of our hardworking women and our beloved senior citizens, because they deserve a better life.

Finally, it goes without saying that the issue of security is on the front-burner all over the nation. Ezeagu is not an exception. We will, in this regard, robustly synergize with the relevant agencies to make Ezeagu safe for our people. We will also empower our local security officials and encourage community policing.

Make no mistake about it, these things can be done. We just need the opportunity.

I wish to state here that, if given the chance and elected as Chairman, Ezeagu Local Government Council, my administration will partner strategically with the Enugu State Government, ably led by Governor Peter Mbah, to actualize our vision for the betterment of our people. In line with Governor Mbah’s Tomorrow Is Here mantra, we will Make Ezeagu Great Again!
