Engineer Jojo: Death As A Mirror Of Life

By Ingram Osigwe

It is not length of life, but depth of life, so says Ralph Waldo Emerson.

In life and in death, JoJo remains the main issue, reason his friends, family and associates find it difficult to come to terms with the grim reality of his departure.

His transition is in all ramifications, a painful but glorious exit of a rare gem.

As Emerson rightly posits, the length of life one lived pales into insignificance if the depth of his or her life leaves a lasting impression on hearts.

Such was the case with JoJo. The enchanting and impactful life Engr/Evangelist JoJo Udensi lived puts a lie to doubts as to whether or not it is possible to live wholly above board.

Sampler: As a building Engineer, Jojo undertook many construction contracts and executed them creditably.

However, one singular action of his was to eternally endear him to one of his clients, a United States-based medical doctor.

The client had inadvertently thought, from his records, that he was indebted to Engineer Jojo to the sum of over 3 million Naira as part of the payment for his services but he was shell shocked to hear from him that he was already done paying him, that his balance was mere  N50,000!

That was the vintage Jojo. He was honest to a fault. The honesty and integrity he exuded were unprecedented, unparalleled.

JoJo’s kind was rare and his virtues far spread, especially in Nigeria.

Engineer Udensi was not just a Christian, he lived a salutary Christian life. As a Minister of God, he didn’t just study the Bible, the word of God, he lived it.

As a counselor, he brought soothing words that acted as a soothing balm to many troubled souls.

Evangelist Udensi spoke life back to many dying marriages. He was an exceptional man of God.

For those, all us who miss JoJo, for everyone whose heart quakes over his painful demise, for every one of us loved and adore him, his life and time should be for us, a case study in wholesome righteousness.

Therefore, we can not but share in Chuck Palahniuk’s assertion that “We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will”

As he is laid to rest, it is refreshing to know that in our hearts and in the hearts of many, Engineer Jojo.N. Udensi created something that will live forever.
