Ecobank MD, Charles Kie Resigns

Charles Kie, Managing Director of Ecobank Nigeria Limited has resigned. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, the parent company of Ecobank Group, announced his resignation on Monday July 9th, 2018.

According to the statement by the bank; “The successful candidate will be announced before the end of August. Mr Kie will continue to manage Ecobank Nigeria through the transition period to ensure a smooth handover to his successor.”

For those who don’t know, Charles Kie joined Ecobank in October, 2011 as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Ecobank Capital, the investment banking arm of the Ecobank Group.

Mr. Charles Kie has been Managing Director of Ecobank Nigeria Limited since January 1, 2016 and served as its Chief Executive Officer and Director. He served as Group Executive of Corporate and Investment Bank at Ecobank Transnational Incorporated since July 1, 2014 and served as the Head of CB Unit since April 2012. He also served as Regional Executive of Nigeria at Ecobank Transnational Incorporated.

Charles Kie also spent several years working with Citigroup, first as Head of Corporate Finance for Francophone Africa and then as Chief Executive Officer for West Africa, based in Cote d’Ivoire and then Senegal.

Before he joined Ecobank, served as Group Chief Executive Officer of Groupe Banque Atlantique, based in Togo and then Cote d’Ivoire from 2008 to 2011. He has been Non-Executive Director of Africa Finance Corporation since 2016. He served as Directors of EBI.SA, the Ecobank subsidiary in France as well as Ecobank Development Corporation (EDC), the investment banking arm of the Ecobank Group.

Charles Kie is a graduate of Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. He holds an MBA from New York University Stern, HEC Paris and London School of Economics, a post graduate degree (DESS) in Corporate Restructuring from the University of Clermont Ferrand (France) and is a graduate of Ecole Superieure de Commerce (Abidjan- Cote d’Ivoire).
