There was a mild drama recently when a group of people who claimed to be youth wing of Social Democratic Party, SDP, Yewa Awori chapter stormed Iwe Iroyin, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta to endorse the Ogun State Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka.

The endorsement which met stiff resistance from another group who also claimed to be authentic member of SDP said the Party has no youth wing.

The Yewa Awori youths while endorsing Gboyega Isiaka at the press conference said they decided to defy the directives of the leader of the Party, Aremo Olusegun Osoba to vote Senator Akin Odunsi because of the abysmal performance of SDP at the last presidential and national assembly elections.

“Assessing the performance of SDP at the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly Elections in the State, the leadership of the group concluded that the result at the poll alone cannot allow the Party to produce the next governor of the State, we view the directive of Osoba counter-productive as an orchestrated attempt to frustrate Yewa Awori agenda”.

“It is a deliberate move to ensure that governorship position in Ogun State eludes Yewa Awori people to favour his kinsman as done by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 2011”.

But a serious face-off was averted by the intervention of the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Wole Sokunbi as another group which claimed to be authentic members of SDP stormed the press center where the press conference was going on.

The latter group led by one Adesanya Olabisi stormed the center in a security Toyota Hilux jeep with registration number Lagos JJJ 309 AZ‎ to counter and disassociate itself from the position of the group which initially claimed to be youth wing of SDP.

Adesanya who claimed to be the head of SDP Information Technology Administration, in a separate media chat dismissed the Oluwadamilare-led group as impostors, declaring that SDP is yet to form a youth wing.

Flaunting packs of big envelopes claimed to be copies of membership registers of SDP, he challenged them to come forward and point to their names in the registers.

In a dramatic U-turn, the Oluwadamilare group denied being members of SDP but claimed they were members of Yewa/Awori Youths Council.

Olabisi said: “They are not members of SDP. SDP does not have youth wing so they are impersonators.
