The war of words between Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his predecessor, Gbenga Daniel, again, attracted attention with the latter’s disputation that he hails from Isoko, in Delta State. Amosun recently confessed to abetting Daniel falsify his state of origin, which enabled him claim Ogun indigeneship.

Reacting, Daniel has described the allegation as an insult to his people in Sagamu, especially Makun, his place of birth.

Speaking for Daniel, Ayo Giwa, his media aide, said Amosun committed a taboo and affronted the traditional institution in Remoland, especially to the ‘thrones of the Akarigbo of Remoland, as well as the Ewusi of Makun, in Remo Kingdom.’

Giwa said: “Precisely on Saturday, February 23, 2002, Gbenga Daniel was made the Aare Asoludero of Makun Sagamu, with traditional rites performed by the Late Ewusi, Oba Efuwape Ogunsowo, Inanuwa II. To all intents and purposes, Oba Ogunsowo declared that Daniel was a freeborn of Makun in Sagamu and of the Ojelobaye family origin. Prominent among those, who were present on that occasion was the former Governor of Lagos State and the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Has he quickly forgotten that Daniel also holds the traditional title of the Arole of Remoland as well as many across the State?

Amosun, reacting to earlier criticisms of his government by Daniel, said, “They thought we are like them; we are not. We are not bastards from Isoko. They came to us then. We were the ones they ran to. We helped them to get where they are claiming today as their home. Although, it isn’t time for political campaign, yet I will not hesitate to respond to Daniel’s allegations against my administration here in the same Odeda Local Government.

Both Amosun and Daniel were on separate tour of the Local Council where the statements were made.
