Alex Akinyele Is Dead

Former Minister of Information, Alex Akinyele is dead.

He died on the night of Thursday, November 14th, 2019 at the age of 81.

For those who don’t know, Alex Opeyemi Akinyele served as information minister under Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (Retd.), during the military rule between 1985 and 1993.

He also headed the Nigerian Sports Commission during Babangida’s regime. He chaired the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations for many years.

Alex Akinyele was born on April 24, 1938 in Ondo State. He attended his primary and secondary education in Ondo.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has sent his condolence to the bereaved.

In a statement by his aide, Mr Femi Adesina, he said;

“The President commiserates with the government and people of Ondo State, friends and professional colleagues of the departed, urging them to take solace in the lasting legacies of the former colourful minister, who also served as Chairman of National Sports Commission and Chairman of National Reconciliation Committee.”

“As a trained teacher and public relations specialist, President Buhari affirms that Chief Akinyele’s scrupulousness, discipline and diligence were always obvious to those who worked closely with him, and his love for the nation, which was zealously demonstrated through providing exemplary leadership.”

“The President prays that the Almighty God will grant the soul of the former minister eternal rest, and comfort all members of his family.”
