Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has been defeated in the Oyo South Senatorial election conducted on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

The governor who is the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Oyo South Senatorial districted has now lost his bid to return to the senate after his tenure as governor.

Ajimobi who polled 92,218 votes was outwitted by Dr. Kola Balogun of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who won the election with the total votes of 105,720 while the sitting senator, Senator Adesoji Akanbi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored total votes of 49,437.
